A JonathanBrandis.org update

The last few weeks have been very encouraging for me as the webmaster of Jonathanbrandis.org. I've been given the chance to connect with people from all over the world who have expressed to me their sadness over the events of Novemeber 12th. Many of them have contributed pictures, stories, poems, and best wishes as I put together the new website due to launch on the first of January.

There are a few things, though, that I would like to specifically seek out in the form of contributions or help in collecting the material myself. I would like for the new site to have screen captures from Jon's television and movie appearances, but this is proving difficult since many of the tv shows and movies are not available right now. These are the productions I'm most interested in finding at the moment:

A Fate Totally Worse Than Death (2000) - playing Drew

Mark Summer's Magical Mystery Tour (1999) - playing Jonathan

Her Last Chance (1997) - playing Preston

Two Came Back (1997) - playing Jason

Born Free A New Adventure (1996) - playing Randal Everett Thompson

Our Shining Moment (1991) - playing Michael 'Scooter' McGuire

Poor Little Rich Girl: The Barbara Hutton Story (1987) - playing Lance Reventlow

"Saved by the Bell: The College Years" (1993) playing "Himself"
in episode: "A Thanksgiving Story" (episode # 1.10) 23 November 1993

"Pros and Cons" (1991) in episode: "Once a kid" (episode # 1.8) 14 November 1991

"Blossom" (1991) playing "Stevie" in episode:
"To Tell the Truth" (episode # 2.6) 21 October 1991

"Wonder Years, The" (1988) playing "Steve"
in episode: "The Yearbook" (episode # 4.19) 10 April 1991

"Gabriel's Fire" (1990) playing "Matthew Fixx"
in episode: "Truth and Consequences" (episode # 1.15) 31 January 1991

"Flash, The" (1990) playing "Terry Cohan"
in episode: "Child's Play" (episode # 1.6) 15 November 1990

"Alien Nation" (1989) playing "Andron"
in episode: "The Touch" (episode # 1.20) 30 April 1990

"Murder, She Wrote" (1984) playing "Kevin Bryce"
in episode: "If the Shoe Fits" (episode # 6.13) 21 January 1990

"Who's the Boss?" (1984) playing "Paul"
in episode: "Your Grandmother's a Bimbo" (episode # 5.11) 29 January 1989

"Full House" (1987/I) playing "Michael"
in episode: "A Little Romance" (episode # 2.11) 13 January 1989

"L.A. Law" (1986) playing "Kevin Talbot"
in episode: "Cannon of Ethics" (episode # 2.3) 29 October 1987

"L.A. Law" (1986) playing "Kevin Talbot"
in episode: "The Wizard of Odds" (episode # 2.2) 22 October 1987

"Sledge Hammer!" (1986) playing "Young Sledge"
in episode: "They Shoot Hammers, Don't They?" (episode # 1.4) 17 October 1986

If you have any of these performances recorded, please consider sending some screen captures here. Everyone who contributes to the website will be fully credited for everything published. Thanks guys, and Merry Christmas!

Comments

I have tapes of "Two Came Back" and "Her Last Chance", but I don't have the proper equipment to do screencaps. I could make copies of the tapes, though, to provide to someone who could make the caps.

Diena Taylor on December 20, 2003 10:54 PM

Hi Drina,

Sorry I don't have any screencaps, but wanted to remind the fans of your webpage :) about:

"2 Came Back," airing today (Sun Dec 21) on Lifetime at 5 pm (east coast USA time, I think). You all can check the time on their webpage: www.lifetimetv.com

Thanks to the person on this webpage (or another messageboard?) who first told us about this.

Judy on December 21, 2003 02:32 AM

I can't do screencaps as yet from VHS but if either of you can do me a tape copy of "Two Came Back"(I can play NTSC tapes) then I would be very grateful as I don't think I have that although it has been shown on UK TV.Click on my name and you can contact me off the board if necessary. Many thanks.

Hi Drina

I have at least three of those on PAL VHS tapes .Can you convert to do screencaps.I don't know how to do these yet apart from the you could photo them from the screen at least from a DVD and download them if you have a digital camera which I also don't have! Not much help with this am I/

Anyway, I have the Wonder Years, Blossom and Saved By The Bell The College Years episodes you mention I think it's just a case of tracking them down. I am starting work on my article for Steve today but I will make a note and seek the tapes out, though you may need to jog my memory sometimes. Thanks for everything you are doing we could not do any of this without you.

Hi Diena I have just re read your message.I was wondering could you possibly do me a tape of Her Last Chance.I can't do screencaps yet but I certainly could use it to add to my collection. If you e-mail me off the message board I will send you my home address and we can make the necessary arrangements.

Many thanks

I am really looking forward to the new website coming together and going live on January 1st.You have done an incredible job Drina and I am sure we are all very grateful to you for that.

Meanwhile I have another suggestion to make. There's not a lot else we can do and it is purely symbolic I know but who else agrees that each of us should light a candle for Jonathan over the Christmas holiday?

John Hutchinson

John Hutchinson on December 21, 2003 01:03 PM

Hi everyone,

"Globe" magazine (Dec 30, 2003 issue) doesn't have a pic but does mention Jon in their article, "2003 Year-End Wrap-Up." Gosh, FINALLY someone included Jon with their "year in review" stuff!

Drina, I'm *so* excited about your new webpage -- can't believe Jan 1 is practically 'round the corner!

Judy on December 21, 2003 04:56 PM

Hi everyone,

Hey John, lighting a candle for Jon sounds like a beautiful idea.

And hope you're able to get help with the copies of Jon's movies. Am so glad you already have so many of Jon's movies on VHS!!

Watching "2 Came Back" wasn't as hard as I thought (figured I'd crack up a lot seeing Jon on screen again, but only lost it when Jon was gulping for air when he was trapped in the ocean under an overturned boat and only had a small area to breathe -- I did lose it then, but not for too long. So heartwarming to see his acting. Such amazing depth of talent *and* a gorgeous body; the two rarely go hand-in-hand. What a loss the world has had.

Judy on December 21, 2003 09:27 PM

If anyone cares to, a symbolic candle may be lit at http://www.beyondindigo.com/candles/index.php/search/J

Brian on December 23, 2003 03:09 PM

Thank you for that Brian.I have done as you suggested.

John Hutchinson on December 23, 2003 03:34 PM

The Candle lighting is a wonderful idea. I will go there soon and light one. I thought of that at work the other night, but havent had time to suggest it. I am just sitting here wondering how JONATHAN's parents are doing this morning with it being Christmas morn.In a way I wish I could be there with them to remember JONATNAN's Happier Christmas's. Oh boy, here come the tears, gotta go . HAVE A SAFE HOLIDAY EVERYONE!!!!

Lori on December 25, 2003 06:53 AM

Tears here too Lori. Christmas sure feels different without Jon (even though I never got to meet him).

Neverending Story II will be on tv today (Dec 25), 2 pm SciFi channel.

Judy on December 25, 2003 12:22 PM

Not sure if this was mentioned or not, but in Entertainment Weekly magazine (Dec 26-Jan 2 issue), it mentions Jon in their "Farewell" section. No pic though, drats!

Judy on December 26, 2003 06:30 PM

Is "Hart's War" on DVD? If so, do they have a deleted scenes portion? And if so, is Jon in any of the deleted scenes?

Judy on December 26, 2003 06:33 PM

www.tv-now.com has updated their schedule until Jan 31. Jon's movies which will show are:

Born Free

Full House

Stepfather II

It (listed under actor Tim Curry's name).

Sorry about making so many posts here, Drina.

Judy on December 26, 2003 06:56 PM

Thanks Judy! I'll check it out.

Drina on December 27, 2003 04:23 AM

Hi Judy

Yes Hart's War is available on DVD at least in the UK where it can be purchased in just about any video store.

I have just checked the Deleted Scenes sequence and I have only looked so far at one "Original Train Sequence" and in that Jonathan appears clearly two or three times standing right behind Colin Farrell.

I will admit that I found it a bit hard pick Jonathan out in the fuilm but maybe I ought to give it a few more viewings.

I will check the rest of the deleted scenes sequence later and let you know what I find.

John Hutchinson on December 27, 2003 04:28 AM

Thanks so much Drina and John!

Judy on December 27, 2003 07:02 AM

You must get a DVD player Judy.....!!

John H

John Hutchinson on December 27, 2003 03:53 PM

Gosh, Santa visited, but forgot my DVD player, John!! Guess I'm on my own with that one. :)

Judy on December 27, 2003 07:17 PM

Is it long to your birthday, Judy?

John Hutchinson on December 27, 2003 07:54 PM

Hi everyone,

Um, my birthday's not for a while. But am hunting around for DVD/VHS players, so hopefully, it won't be too long 'til I'm drooling, er, watching, Jon's movies again!! :)

Judy on December 28, 2003 08:18 AM

Tonight, Dec. 28, at 7 pm (east coast time, usa) on tv, ABC channel has TV Guide's Year in Review. Not sure of the exact tv channel or title, but it's some kind of Year in Review thingy. Not sure if Jon will be on either, but let's hope.

Judy on December 28, 2003 04:46 PM

Fingers crossed he jollywell should be on.

As for our sorry networks I can't find a year end review programme at all amongst all of them.

John H

John Hutchinson on December 28, 2003 06:33 PM

Hi,

Nope, Jon wasn't on the TV Guide Best of 2003 program. Drats!

Sorry the UK doesn't have a year end program John. Hopefully, they'll show Jon on the big award shows coming up, in the memorial segments of the shows. Other than that, I think it's up to us fans/friends of Jon's to make sure he's not forgotten.

Judy on December 29, 2003 06:37 AM

Well he should have been there, simple as that.

But as you saw from my previous e-mail he was not included in the LA Times (I think that was the name of the paper) list of stars who had died during 2003 either.

So I think you are right Judy, Jonathan's fans have a job to do here, and I am sure we will get it done.

John H

John Hutchinson on December 29, 2003 06:01 PM

Hey everyone,

Yeah John, Jon really should have been on that show! :(

We have some more chances though:

"E! News Live Special -- Year in Review" will air at (east coast time, usa):

Fri Jan 2, at 7 pm.

Sat Jan 3, at 9 am.

Sun Jan 4, at 11 am.

Also, don't remember if this was listed or not, but the big award shows (which *might* show Jon in their memorial segments) will air:

Oscars: Sun February 29 (8/7 central, usa)

SAG Awards: February 22 (not sure of the time yet)

Golden Globes: Sun Jan 25, at 8 pm (east coast time, usa)

Judy on December 29, 2003 09:46 PM

I agree, there is no reason that a talented actor like Jon, one who enjoyed considerable success in film, should be ignored this way. A lot of big stars have died this year (Bob Hope, Katherine Hepburn, etc.) but this is no reason to leave Jonathan out of celebrity remembrances.

Drina on December 30, 2003 12:42 PM

Couldn't agree more Drina. None of them should be excluded. They all had great talent. They all had loyal fans. They all deserve to be remembered.

Here in the UK we have actually lost 5 MAJOR talents in the last week or so, namely actors Alfred Lynch, Sir Alan Bates and Dinsdale Landen, actress Patricia Roc and arguably the biggest loss of all, comedian and game show host Bob Monkhouse.

Just like Jonathan they all enriched the world by what they did and it is considerably diminished by their passing.

But it is no excuse for broadcasters to memorialise any one of them at the expense of another.

Incidentally, for other readers who I have not e-mailed, TV Zone #171 for Jan 2004 in the UK carries a 47 word obituary for Jonathan coupled with a quarter page colour pic from his Seaquest days or maybe just before. It reads as follows:

"Actor Jonathan Brandis who played Lucas Wolenczek in Seaquest DSV and its successor Seaquest 2032 was found dead at his Los Angeles home on 12th November.Only 27, Brandis was also seen in Alien Nation and The Flash , featuring as Prince Wenceslas in 1994's Good King Wenceslas".

Two errors in that. They mis spell Wolenczak and they have made what I think is a factual error regarding Nov 11 and 12,as all the reports I have seen indicate that he was actually found at home by his friend shortly before midning on Nov 11 unconscious but still alive and died in hospital on Nov 12 from his injuries.

Therefore,he did not die at home as they say,

Better than nothing but does anyone think it's worth e-mailing them to point out their errors?

John Hutchinson on December 30, 2003 03:05 PM

Hi Judy

That show, or at least one with the same title airs twice today on our E! channel. One I have missed as I was out, the next showing is at 9.30p.m. UK time.

The video will be rolling and I will be watching.

John Hutchinson on December 30, 2003 03:07 PM

Guess what along with many others Jonathan was not mentioned.

John H

John Hutchinson on December 30, 2003 07:48 PM

Jon wasn't mentioned again?! :(( How typical. I'm beginning to think Jon's too good for those shows! (Giggle)

Judy on December 30, 2003 09:18 PM

Is there any way to see Jon's deleted scenes from Hart's War?
