Oh, how I feel for those heroin addicts...
My head... is throbbing. I see pink spots everywhere. There is a little vein right beside my left ear that is pulsating like the subwoofers on a 19 year-old's hatchback. I hurt. I'm in pain. I am an addict in detox.
Yesterday I decided that I'm going to lead a healthy lifestyle. No kidding... I'm going to be healthy, even if my new habits leave me feeling like the puddle of mud I stepped in this morning. No more caffeine, no more sugar, and certainly no more french fries and chips.
Today I started my first official day in detox, and already I find myself lustfully eyeing the big bottle of Alleve sitting on the kitchen counter. I just want one pill (or seven) to get my head to stop this throbbing. ThRoBbInG.... Yuck.

The caffeine detox... I remember that one. It takes about a week to get rid of that headache. Just curl up in the fetal position in your bedroom until then.
Shannon on July 15, 2003 08:35 AMYou should cut back on the caffeine, not cold turkey it. If your fix is coffee, try half decaf with reg. then decrease till reg is gone. If it is colas, alternate your regular usage with caffeine free.
Tim on July 15, 2003 11:00 AMlet's see how long this will last! lol how many other things have you sworn off? but I believe you can get through it! you go girl! lol
Your old roomie on July 15, 2003 04:23 PMooohhhh! i'm sorry. i tried that once and held out for about a month....i've been trying to convince myslef to do it again....good luck! =)
miagan on July 15, 2003 05:05 PMyou know what? Just cold turkey it. The first couple of days are hell, then you get used to having a headache, and then you wake up a week later, elated that you have no headache and then you're done!
Shannon on July 16, 2003 09:01 AMwhoa. good luck. i'm definitly impressed. i'd never be able to go without my caffiene.....
Courtney on July 16, 2003 10:14 AMGood luck!! When I discovered I was addicted to caffiene, I cold turkeyed it. I had the most horrible headaches for awhile, but they go away in no time. It'll just be a little time and you'll be unpainful again. :D
Brina on July 17, 2003 12:59 PMI had a glass of Coke today. Failure, failure.
Drina on July 18, 2003 07:10 PMI agree with Tim--cutting back is a good idea. I was forced to relinquish my caffeine rights a couple of years ago and it was insanity for like two weeks straight (course I was used to drinking like at least 2 liters of Dr. Pepper EVERY day). You should try Splenda, the sugar supplement--it's good stuff!
sabrina on July 21, 2003 02:31 PMGood luck, and I admire your courage! ITs aweful to think of the things that have control over us!
Christia on July 23, 2003 07:26 PMat least it's not nicotine. that's hard as hell. i was able to do it after 4 years of smoking, but i still get cravings 2 years later. anyway - good luck!

No need to go from one extreme to another. My grandfather used to say, "all things in moderation."
