Take On Me
Take On Me by MxPx is playing in my head non-stop. I like that song, but I think I'll be sick of it in another hour. In the meantime, I'm trying to figure out whether or not MxPx should have the "Christian Punk" label. They're Christians, and are pretty vocal about it, but few of their songs really reflect values that are distinctly Christian (as opposed to Jewish, American, etc.) Does it really help to even label something "Christian?" What makes music Christian anyway? Is it still Christian if you never mention Christ?
I don't think music should come with religious labels. If it's punk, call it punk. If it's hip-hop, call it hip-hop. The religious themes of the songs or the beliefs of the performers should not separate the music into a different category. At least that's my take on it. I still like MxPx, though, Punk or Christian Punk.
